Will Phil Costa Back Carl Scully? Print E-mail

Liberal candidate for Wollondilly, Sharryn Hilton today challenged Labor candidate Phil Costa to condemn Police Minister Carl Scully for lying to Parliament and the public over the Cronulla Riot report.

“Today I challenge Phil Costa to either publicly back Carl Scully or condemn him for lying to Parliament and misleading the people of Wollondilly and New South Wales.

“Phil Costa must explain to the people of Wollondilly whether he supports a Minister who has lied to Parliament and lied to the public.

“Law and order is an issue that is rightly of interest in Wollondilly, and local residents need to know whether the Labor candidate supports a Police Minister that has repeatedly lied and smeared a senior police officer.

“After 12 long years, Carl Scully has failed in every portfolio he's held – only to be promoted by the Labor Party to the next one. His failures include the appalling handling of the safety crisis on Menangle Bridge, which was kept open during the last election despite expert advice that it needed to be closed immediately.

“Carl Scully’s other failures include:

  • The bungled Macquarie Fields and Redfern riots; and,
  • The Cross City Tunnel contract debacle;
  • Failure to clean up Sydney Harbour;
  • Four ferry crashes;
  • The T-Card promised for the Olympics that still hasn’t been delivered;
  • The promised Chatswood to Parramatta Rail Link that wasn’t built;
  • The Glenbrook and Waterfall train disasters;
  • The failed desalination plant proposal.

"Phil Costa must come clean and either support Carl Scully or condemn him for lying,” Ms Hilton concluded.
